Program Visit — Metropolitan Tenants Organizatoin
June 27 @ 3:30 pm - 5:30 pm
Please join your fellow partners for a program visit to our newest investee – Metropolitan Tenants Organization. The mission of the MTO is to educate, organize and empower tenants to have a voice in the decisions that affect the affordability and availability of safe, decent and accessible housing. There are 575,998 rental units in the city, making up 55% of all households. Tenants in just over half of those units pay more than half of their income for housing costs leaving little to cover basic needs and perpetuating poverty. MTO serves these renters – focusing on low-income households – in three ways:
· Hotline to educate renters about their rights
· Affordable Housing Preservation Program
· Healthy Homes Program
We will get a view into MTO’s tenants’ rights hotline which serves more than 10,000 people annually. We’ll also learn more about their other two key programs, meet their ED and key staff, and learn more about their vision for the coming year.
