In November, Social Venture Partners International received almost $700,000 in grants from the Ford, Raikes and Gates Foundations to build a Philanthropy Development framework for our Partners. SVP Calgary has been selected to pilot two of the courses on behalf of the 3,200 Partners in 40 cities across 9 countries. It is an amazing opportunity to learn and provide input that is going to impact the entire organization. Members of SVP International will facilitate the sessions in Calgary.
March 9, 2017 – Social Venture Partners Approach, Values and Culture
SVP’s values and behaviors, SVP’s cultural norms, SVP’s programs and methodologies, SVP’s “fit” – the characteristics of organizations that thrive as investees.
By the end of this module, learners will be able to; examine how SVP’s values and behaviors align with their personal values; compare and contrast personal experiences with cultural norms and the cultural norms of SVP, identify programs and methodologies that make up the SVP way, describe the characteristics of an organization that is likely to thrive as an SVP Investee.
March 11, 2017 – Nonprofit Fundamentals
Topics include – how non-profits are different than for profits, overview of fundraising methods for nonprofits, understanding of board governance and non profit financial accounting, non profit cultures. By the end of the module, learners will be able to – compare and contrast organizational structure and reason for being between nonprofit and for profit organizations, describe the variety of structures and fundraising (revenue generating) methods available to nonprofits, explain the core functions of non profit board governance, describe the continuum of organizational culture that characterizes a range of non-profit organizations.
