SVPC Fast Pitch is a free, two-month training and mentoring program for innovative non-profits that are targeting social change in Calgary. Over the course of two months, these non-profit leaders will work with volunteer business coaches on how to succinctly and powerfully tell their story.
Coaches help their non-profit leader craft their story in a concise and compelling three- minute pitch that demonstrates their innovation and impact in Calgary. They provide tips on public speaking and help the non-profit clarify their story. This group will be narrowed down to 8 finalists in late October.
At the Fast Pitch finals on November 2, the finalists each have three minutes to share the mission, vision, innovation and social impact of their organization to a panel of local, celebrity judges and a crowd of more than 350 people, as they compete for a minimum of $20,000 in grants and prizes. Following the presentations, the judges and audience vote for their favourite pitch.
“Fast Pitch is a unique opportunity for non-profits to have unfettered access to volunteer, business professionals and amplify their organizations impact,” says Lindsay Read, Executive Director, SVP Calgary. “The Fast Pitch program perfectly aligns with SVP’s overall vision of an engaged community that builds capacity in innovative non-profits.”
Since 2012, SVPC Fast Pitch has awarded non-profit organizations with over $135,000 in grants and prizes as well as thousands of hours of coaching from local, business professionals. Following their involvement with Fast Pitch, participant organizations often achieve further growth, investment, sponsorship and increased public awareness.
