Our Impact on Philanthropy Development in Boulder County

Posted by maryswa17

As a learning organization, SVP Boulder County, as well as SVP International (SVPI), seeks to continually assess its progress and improve its performance. In the summer of 2017 (as happens every two years), SVPI and all SVP affiliates engaged their Partners to assess SVP’s progress and improve its performance through four outcomes:

  • Changes in how much Partners give
  • Changes in the way Partners give
  • Changes in Partners’ involvement in their communities
  • Changes in Partners’ knowledge of nonprofits and community issues

Sixty percent of SVP Boulder County Partner member households/businesses participated in the survey.

Here are a few key findings:

  • In 2017, 74% of respondents increased their giving by 10% to more than 100% since joining SVP.
  • Partners increased their strategic giving principles in their personal philanthropy by 96%. (Wondering what the 10 strategic giving criteria are? See Appendix A in the full report for detailed definitions.)
  • The two most commonly reported aspects of community involvement Partners increased were volunteering (75%) and awareness of community affairs (72%).

Importantly, for the majority of Partner members whom participated in the survey, involvement with SVP was a contributing factor to whether Partner members increased their giving, became more strategic in their giving, and increased their community involvement.

The results are confirmation that SVP Boulder County is addressing its dual mission: developing philanthropy and volunteerism among its Partner members AND building the capacity and capability of nonprofit organizations (Investees/clients).

Thank you to all of our Partner members who participated in the survey! While there is always more work to do, we are happy to understand that SVP Boulder County played a key role in increasing philanthropy in our community over the past two years.
