Social Venture Partners Boston has selected three finalists – America SCORES Boston, Enroot, and WriteBoston – to compete for three years of funding and skilled volunteer support. The finalists were evaluated for their leadership, sustainability, societal impact and innovation, and stood out from the original pool of close to 20 organizations.
America SCORES Boston engages under-resourced youth in Boston Public Schools in continuous, teacher-led, after-school programming from grades 3-12. Students participate in a blend of soccer, academic support, and enrichment programs to improve their health, academic engagement, and global citizenship. Enroot empowers low-income, immigrant high school students to achieve academic, personal, and career success through mentorship, leadership development, professional internships, and academic support. WriteBoston offers training and coaching for teachers to teach and use writing to support student learning across all content areas, along with direct writing support and publishing opportunities for students.
The three finalists will move forward to the next phase of SVP’s due diligence process, which will include submitting a full proposal, hosting a site visit, and undergoing a leadership assessment.
One organization will be selected in late May for three years of support, including $100,000 in capacity building funds and access to a pool of highly skilled business professionals that provide hands-on support and counsel in key areas: strategy, business and financial planning, talent development, marketing and communications, board development, and impact measurement. With the infusion of these greatly needed resources – both human and financial – SVP’s nonprofit Grantees grow to serve more low-income children and families and Boston and beyond with programs that truly work.
