Data Dive: You’ll Swim, We Promise!

The good news: data is plentiful these days.

The bad: a bit of torturing is usually necessary to find the data you need. As much digging and bending as might be used to, knowing what to look for and how, plus when to use what you’ve found, is never a simple, cut and dry task.

Some of you are probably thinking: “Yup, I can’t catch a break.” Or, “That’s why we want to bring in some young techy intern. They’re good with number crunching right?” In the words of cheesy daytime television, I say, Look No Further!

SVPI is always at work, doing our best to provide the right kind of data for as many affiliate needs as possible. Just a few of the many reasons to engage the data resources SVPI has at the ready:

  • You want to communicate SVP’s global impact.
  • You want to learn more from the affiliates experiencing steady growth.
  • You’re considering new ways to diversify your funding.
  • You want to boost partner education and need to develop an education plan.
  • You want to increase the number of your partners involved in recruiting.
  • It’s that kind of day and you just feel like torturing some data.

This week at the design desk I directed affiliates to our updated network map — did you know SVP Miami launched last month?? — illustrating the reach of our network. In addition to tracking numbers, we also measure our impact as we strive to cultivate increasingly generous, savvy and engaged donors.

Just yesterday, SVP Tampa Bay board chair Betty Otter-Nickerson used information collected for our Network Data Report to find out how many SVP affiliates are part of their local community foundation.

John Lennon once said, “The love you take is equal to the love you make.” He might have been talking about world peace and stuff but somehow his wisdom also relates to data collecting. Data is only available when each of us makes it so. The sooner affiliates complete the annual data survey the more our data stands to benefit the entire SVP network.
